Sustaining Membership
What is Sustaining Membership?

Friends of SDPB’s Sustaining Members give on a recurring basis, most often monthly. Sustaining memberships save time, fees, and material resources since you will no longer receive renewal notices in the mail. Sustaining memberships also create a dependable base of support for SDPB.

As a Sustaining Member, your donation will be debited from your account each month and your membership will be automatically renewed at the end of your membership year. Each January, we will send you a record of your giving history for tax purposes. Of course, you can change or cancel your payments at any time.

Your sustaining pledge can be paid either by EFT or credit card. The most efficient sustaining gifts are paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from your checking or savings account. The fees that Friends of SDPB incurs on EFT gifts are nominal, and EFT gifts need fewer updates than credit card gifts, i.e. when expiration dates change or cards are compromised.

Credit or debit card payments are also an option, and while Friends of SDPB pays a processing fee for your recurring gift, credit card payments are convenient and easy for you as a member. You may also elect to increase your pledge to cover these processing fees.

I am a Sustaining Member. How can I make changes to my gift amount or payment?

Make changes to current pledges in your mySDPB account, or contact Member Services (605-443-6960) during regular business hours.

Why am I getting renewal notices? I thought I was a Sustaining Member.

If you want to make sure you are a Sustaining Member, please contact Member Services (605-443-6960) or email us. It’s possible that you have been paying monthly but we didn’t know you intended for your gift to extend beyond 12 months.

How do I cancel or suspend my Sustaining Membership?

Submit your request through mySDPB, email us or contact Member Services (605-443-6960). You will need to provide your contact information including mailing address, phone number and/or email in order to cancel your membership.

Do I qualify for a thank you gift as a Sustaining Member?

Yes, you are eligible for a gift every year. To request a thank you gift, contact Member Services, email us, or submit a request through mySDPB.

Donor and Membership Questions
Is my gift to Friends of SDPB tax-deductible?

Yes. Your gift to Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting is fully tax-deductible, minus the fair market value of any thank you gifts requested. We will mail a summary of your donations in January for the previous calendar year.

You can also generate a tax statement online, at any time, for any year, through mySDPB.

Does Friends of SDPB sell or exchange information?

No, we do not. Click here to see our donor privacy and data handling policy.

Do you accept vehicle donations?

Yes, we do! We accept most vehicles, regardless of condition.
If it runs…great! If it’s an eyesore, no problem!

Click here for more information or to donate a vehicle today!

Can I include Friends of SDPB in my will, living trust, or other estate plans?

Yes, you can make a bequest to Friends of SDPB through your will or living trust by designating a percentage of your total estate, the residue, a portion of the residue, or a specific dollar amount.

When does my membership expire?

If you receive a print copy of the SDPB Magazine, the expiration date is printed on the mailing label above the addressee name. You can also contact Member Services (605-443-6960) or email us.

How can I update my membership contact information?

You can update your information online through our mySDPB portal. You can also email us or call Member Services (605-443-6960).

I have not received my SDPB Magazine. How can I get one this month?

Your SDPB Magazine should arrive about the first of each month. If you do not receive your magazine by the 5th of the month, contact Member Services (605-443-6960) to request a replacement copy. We will double-check to make sure we have the correct address and that your membership has not expired. We also send out an electronic version by email.

How do I give a gift membership?

Gift Memberships can be chosen as a thank you gift from our donate page or when you make a donation by phone. You can also contact Member Services (605-443-6960). We will send the recipient a letter notifying the person that they have received a gift membership.

How do I give a memorial gift?

You may donate online at sdpb.org/memorial, contact Member Services (605-443-6960), or mail a gift to Friends of SDPB.

Please include:

(1) your name and contact information

(2) the name of the person being memorialized

(3) contact information for the deceased’s family so we can send notification of your gift.

Is it possible to make monthly installments for my donation?

Yes. We recognize that an installment gift is a way to budget your donation, by spreading your payments out over monthly, quarterly or semiannual payments. We offer the convenience of monthly contributions via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer from your checking or savings account) or by credit or debit card.

Note that installment gifts end after the pledge is fulfilled and are not automatically considered sustaining gifts. You will need to pledge again in 12 months to keep your membership active.

I already sent in a donation. Why did I receive another request?

During your membership year, you may receive a request for an additional contribution beyond your renewal gift. Additional contributions from current members are an important part of our strong member support.

Our experience shows that many Friends of SDPB members who feel they would like to, but cannot give a larger contribution when renewing, send “extra” gifts during their membership year. These gifts do not extend your membership year and should not be confused with renewal reminders.

Your recent renewal gift may also have crossed in the mail with our latest letter to you. In this case, please disregard or contact Member Services to verify that your renewal gift has been received and credited to your membership.

I just made a monthly gift online or by phone. When will my account be debited?

Donations by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from your checking or savings account may take up to 10 days to process and will not appear on your banking institution’s account immediately. Grouping these transactions together saves Friends of SDPB considerable expense and helps us be the best stewards of our resources. In future months, EFT installments or sustaining gifts, are processed on either the 10th or the 20th of each month.

Donations by credit or debit card may take up to 72 hours to process and will not appear on your banking institution’s account immediately. In future months, credit or debit card payments will be processed on the 5th of each month, or the next business day if the 5th is a weekend or holiday.

How can I change my payment information for my donation?

You can update your information in one of three easy ways.

First, you can update your payment information online at mySDPB or Update My Payment. This will replace your existing information with the updated payment information that you provide.

Second, you can convert your credit card payment to Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). The fee that Friends of SDPB incurs on EFT gifts is nominal and substantially lower than credit card fees. EFT gifts also need less maintenance as there is no change when a credit card’s expiration dates changes or when a cards has been compromised. Update today at mySDPB or sdpb.org/updatemypayment.

Third, you may call Member Services (605-443-6960).

I have already donated. How can I get my gift matched by my employer?

Check with your Human Resources department to obtain your organization’s matching gift information. Your company may need the acknowledgement letter that we mail to you in order to begin processing a matching gift.

Please be aware that your company may deduct the Fair Market Value of any thank you gift(s) before determining the amount that they will match.

Miscellaneous
I love SDPB! How do I get more involved?

One of the best ways to get involved with SDPB is to sign up as a volunteer! While we don’t always have volunteer opportunities available, when we do you get to be one of the first people to know about upcoming events and opportunities and be part of making them happen.
